BREVE DESCRIPCIÓN DE LA ESPECIE

 

Árbol de hasta 20 mts. de altura, con el tronco recto de hasta 1.5 mts. de diámetro a la altura del pecho, presentando contrafuertes bien formados, la copa es frondosa, abierta en forma de abanico; flores pequeñas de color verde amarillentas; los frutos son cápsulas leñosas, ovoides de color moreno-rojizo de 12 a 18 cm. de largo y 8 cm. de ancho.

 

 

DESCRIPCIÓN DE SU HÁBITAT

 

 

Selvas altas subperennifolia y perennifolia, presentándose también en los petenes.

 

 

USOS TRADICIONALES DE LA ESPECIE

 

Madera preciosa muy utilizada para diferentes trabajos de ebanistería, como ornamental en parques que tengan mucho espacio.
